UNLV
I guess I forgot about keeping up this blog with all that has been going on lately. I interviewed at UNLV on November 3rd and I loved the place and the people, luckily for me they liked me too. On December 1st they offered me a spot at their dental school. We are so excited to have made it this far and we can't wait for this next step in our journey. UNLV here we come!!

First Interview
I have been checking my email on a borderline excessive amount as of late each time hoping to see and interview invitation. Yesterday I received my first invitation to interview at UNLV on November 3rd and I jumped out of my seat giving my friend a high five and doing a little celebratory dance. This dream is becoming more and more real and all of our sacrifice and hard work is paying off. I called my wife and let her know the good news and she was extremely happy, I could hear the kids in the background saying "good job daddy!". I am so excited to see what else might happen during this journey. I can't tell you how much pressure and stress has been removed now that I have my first interview officially. If I get more I will be sure to post about them.

Jimmer Time
A good friend took me and my son Talan to the BYU football game on Friday against UCF. It was awesome! My son is a huge BYU fan so it was a dream come true for him and to top it off his favorite cougar player, Jimmer Fredette was in attendance. My son would not stop asking if we were going to meet the Jimmer and I didn't have the heart to tell him no so I kept saying that we will see. Jimmer was on the field with the football team so I knew the odds were not in my favor. Thanks to being in the right place at the right time and taking a chance for my little guy we were able to go onto the field and get a picture with the Jimmer.
I am very grateful to Jimmer for taking the time to shake his hand and pose for a picture. He was one happy little boy, not to mention his cougars won the football game too.

Application
So my applications have been out officially for a little over 2 1/2 weeks, I know I applied a little late but we wanted to be sure we were making the right decision. I have already filled out secondary applications to all of the schools I applied to and now I am in the middle of the worst part...... the waiting game! My email inbox gets checked almost every minute of every day looking for an interview invite even though I know that it should take at least 2-3 more weeks before I get one. It doesn't help to be able to check websites like Predents.com and see that people with worse stats than me are getting interviews because they applied 2 months before me but it does give me hope :) I have learned a lot in the last few months regarding what to do and not to do when it comes to getting ready for the DAT and application to dental schools and I hope that I can help someone else out by sharing those experiences. In this first post I just wanted to share a little information and also vent a little about the waiting game I am in currently. Please feel free to email me or post questions and I will try my best to help. If you are in the process of studying for the DAT then I have to recommend www.coursesaver.com, I have absolutely no affiliation with them other than the fact that I used their online videos to study and prepare and they were spot on when comes to learning the information the way that you will be tested on in during the DAT. Chad is the man, just ask anyone who has seen those videos. I would even recommend the website if you are in the process of taking Gen Chem, O-Chem, or Physics in you pre-dental studies. Don't pay for those expensive week long courses until you have tried these videos, I promise you will thank me. It's getting late and I have BioChem and Mammalogy tomorrow, not to mention a Cell Bio exam and a Mammalogy exam..... I should be studying not sleeping.
Best of luck,
Justin
